Tuvia and I would like to consider ourselves good parents (the kids have only ingested a little bit of dirt today), but we have our less than stellar moments. Like the fact that we still haven’t secured the baby monitor to the wall. Womp womp.
We need some way to secure the monitor so Mia can’t knock it down and I’d love to have open storage near the changing table so we don’t have to bend every time we want a diaper. I don’t want shelves or more visual clutter so the solution I like best is wire baskets. I saw them hung on the wall in a friend’s apartment and thought it was genius. They serve as storage and there’s a built in place to pull the wire through for the monitor.
I know exactly which ones I want from The Land of Nod (#dreamsource), but they’re $39 each and it’s not a bad price but we want two and I don’t want to spend $80 on this ($78, I know). Here’s what I found for less:
Ikea has a bunch of really cheap options like the Antonius wire basket. At $2.50, it’s tempting but the dimensions are all wrong. They also have the Komplement wire basket for $5 which has dimensions I think I could work with, but I don’t like the “lip” it has to pull it out like a drawer. And lastly the Algot wire basket for $6, which is bigger than I’d like but we’re keeping our options open.
Color isn’t really a factor because we can just spray paint it white easily enough and that’s definitely worth it to me if it’s cheap enough (I’m looking at you beige Komplement)
The Container Store is another good source (pshaw, obviously). I like the look of their white Elfa drawers that are between $12-$19 though I prefer dimensions that are more like a square, I think we could get a better idea of what would work if we see it in person. The X-Small Marche basket is actually a square and I like the handcrafted quality, especially for $9.99. The Chrome Wire Storage Basket is almost exactly the dimensions I want and at $16.99 almost half the price of The Land of Nod ones. Not sure I’d want to paint them though…
Casa.com had a few good options also (and free shipping for 3 months if you sign up now) like the Cabo Storage Nest for $20.99. The Spectrum medium storage basket is $13.62 (random price, right?) and it seems like it has a handle, which I’m not crazy about. The Gladiator GarageWorks wire basket would work really well for storage, but it’s not that cheap and I’m not sure how good it would be for the monitor.
I’ve also find cheaper wire baskets at World Market and Crate and Barrel and I’ve found beautiful ones at West Elm, Pottery Barn, and Restoration Hardware that cost more than the Land of Nod ones so that’s not really helpful.
We want to see some of them in person before we make a decision. Knowing me, by the time we do that I’ll have come up with a different solution.
