If you haven’t planned anything for New Year’s, it’s not too late to make your own party! At the end of the day, it’s the company that makes it a good party, big or small so here are some easy last minute ways to pull together a fab New Year’s party:
Go to your nearest dollar store for some black, white, and gold balloons, then fill them with gold foil or colorful confetti and pop them at midnight (then they serve as decor and entertainment). If you have the energy and time to set it up, a confetti balloon bar would be incredible. Check out Studio DIY for the how to.
You can also print out some free printables and use them for everything from party hats to banners. If you’re feeling crafty and have the time, you can make your own banner like this one. I might use black paper and a white or gold chalk marker for the letters.
Grab some champagne or make one signature drink. I personally love it when Tuvia makes a huge bowl of sangria and it’s always the first to go. And it should go without saying that water should be available for the preggos and non-drinkers as well as any other drinks you prefer. Check out Style Me Pretty for this delicious cocktail recipe.
Assuming you are friends with the people you are inviting, tell them it’s last minute and ask everyone to contribute one finger food so everyone can walk around comfortably and unencumbered with a big plate. Unless of course you’re having a New Year’s Eve dinner (which is completely adorable) and in that case make one great main and have friends bring the sides! (Image via Style Me Pretty)
A great playlist sets the tone, so if you’re having a low-key dinner party I love playing some jazz (what Aiden calls “tummy music”) or Stan Getz on the record player I got Tuvia as a gift the first Chanukah we were married. Another way to loosen people up is with a photobooth and it doesn’t have to be hard or complicated at all like this giant sequin background from Oh Happy Day. See this post for more easy photobooth ideas and you can print props from here.
Invite good ones and you’re just about guaranteed a fab, fun night…adding some confetti doesn’t hurt.
